Professorial Inauguration: Norbert Götz

The Department of Culture and Society (IKOS) welcomes Norbert Götz, Professor of Modern History, to his professorial inauguration, and you are warmly invited to attend.

The inauguration and lecture will be conducted in Swedish.

Civil Society in Its Many Forms: Swedish, Nordic and Global Perspectives

A beloved subject has many names. Popular movements, voluntary associations and civil society are among the concepts used to describe the self-organised sphere that has emerged between the individual, the family, the market and the state. This lecture outlines the main developments in this sphere from its breakthrough in the nineteenth century to the present day. The perspective is Swedish, Nordic and global, with particular emphasis on the transnational and values-driven engagement of civil society.

Lecture and reception

Following the inauguration and lecture, a reception will be held. We warmly welcome you to join us for an opportunity to meet colleagues from IKOS and across Linköping University.

Please register by 7 September. If the deadline has passed and you have not registered, you are still welcome to attend the lecture, but you will not be able to participate in the reception.
