As if getting a first grant wasn鈥檛 hard enough, genAI just made it that bit tougher for early career researchers. One example from a recent study showed a 142% increase in applications for EU Marie Sk艂odowska-Curie Actions fellowships since ChatGPT came online in 2022.
Use of Large Language Models like ChatGPT can make it feel easier to write catchy project outlines, meaning that funders are flooded with applications and scrambling to formulate guidance on use of genAI for applicants. But concerns about genAI use in funding don鈥檛 stop at writing applications. Increasingly reviewers 鈥� faced with a mountain of applications 鈥� are turning to LLMs to help them review.
In this workshop representatives from Swedish funders talk about how they are developing application guidelines both for applicants and reviewers, while experts from recent panels share their experiences of assessing applications in the era of genAI.
